Docking conveyor belts
The ease of use of conveyor transport in various industries (metallurgical, mining, chemical, food, construction and others) depends not only on the quality of the conveyor belt, but also on how professionally the tape was docked before being put into operation. Most of the conveyors in production (about 60%) are idle just because of the repair or violation of the integrity of the butt joints of these conveyor belts. Many professionals recommend hot vulcanizing the conveyor belt as it is the strongest and most durable method.
Over many years of work, our company has come up with the three most effective types of joints for conveyor belts:
- Mechanical connection
- Cold vulcanization
- Hot vulcanization
When joining a conveyor belt joint in one of the presented ways, its strength depends on:
- Skills of workers
- Strict adherence to the work schedule when joining tapes
- Qualities of materials used for joining
Properly executed joining of the conveyor belt is the most important production process
Attention to this issue is due to the fact that the ease of use of the equipment depends on the strength of the butt welds. After years of work, we found out that most of the breakdowns are associated with broken belts, since they are the most loaded. Therefore, ensuring the durability and reliability of the canvas is the main task of repairmen.
From our own experience with joining conveyor belts, we found out that we mainly use three methods that have proven to be the most effective means of joining – cold vulcanization, hot vulcanization and mechanical docking. Each of the presented docking methods has its own characteristics. For this reason, the selection of a rational option is carried out based on the functional purpose of the conveyor and its operating conditions.

Conveyor belt splicing by hot vulcanization
Docking of conveyor belts using hot vulcanization consists in heating the web at the place of the intended joint. At the beginning, the edges of the web are separated and smeared with glue, and then combined at the junction and boiled with a press. The advantage of hot vulcanization is the formation of a single tape structure, which creates an integral web. As a result, we get a connection section that is not inferior in strength to other parts of the tape. The main disadvantage of this connection method is the complexity and duration of the production process, which significantly affects the cost of the product itself.

Jointing of conveyor belt by cold vulcanization
The principle of cold vulcanization consists in delamination of the edges of the segments using a special adhesive. At the same time, the density of the seam is about 70% of the continuity of the fabric itself. The use of this method is fully justified by equipment that operates at a room temperature of -45 to +80°C. But for the implementation of this method, the creation of certain conditions is required: the desired positive temperature, the complete absence of dust and humidity not lower than the dew point.

Mechanical splicing of the conveyor belt
Mechanical splicing of conveyor belts has traditionally been considered the fastest and most convenient splicing method. Unlike cold and hot vulcanization, this method does not require special equipment, the creation of the necessary conditions and does not require cutting the edges of the tape. It can be used in any degree of dustiness and humidity of the room. The principle of this type of joint is the use of rivets and bolts. If it is necessary to provide a detachable connection, it is recommended to use the hinged method of joining conveyor belts.
